Your Name, date of game, KO time, location of game (including postcode), teams (plus age group if applicable), advising whether male or female teams, contact mobile number, fee proposed (unless you seek guidance) and how payable, any additional information (e.g. format, if not 11 aside, the league you normally compete in).
PLEASE – If you are also seeking Referees via other means, let us know.
VERY IMPORTANT – If you otherwise secure a Referee before we confirm our Appointment, please inform us immediately.

Competition rules
For most Girls’ (Regional, also known as SE Region, & Youth Performance League) matches, rules, fees etc. are detailed in:
Here for League & League Cup
Here for Youth Challenge Cup
The teamlines detail where the paperwork should be sent and the timescales. There is no requirement to record anything online or otherwise report scores etc..
For Women’s and other Girls’ cups, see:
https://scotwomensfootball.com/governance/competitions/
Please note that SWFL games will be processed on SFA COMET*.
Fees – Fees are detailed in competition rules (see above links).
* For any games that are processed on COMET, you should receive an appointment confirmation email and the match will then appear there. This email can be late on in the week. Completed teamlines are scanned by you and uploaded there, after the game. There is no need to then post or email the teamlines, but you should retain them for at least a month. Please remember that ALL matches that are administered via COMET must be completed within 24 hours of the match finishing – so that the misconduct and suspension list can be updated. If extra time is required, or you know that the admin will be completed late, please inform Refadminmanager@scottishfa.co.uk and copy in disciplinary@scottishfa.co.uk (the latter if there were any cards). If you need advice about match processing on COMET, please contact EDRA Appointments quickly (well before that 24 hours is up!). However, if you are having technical issues with COMET, you should contact Appointments@scottishfa.co.uk.
For small sided games (e.g. 9 aside), both boys and girls, search in your App Store (Apple devices) or Play Store (Android) for ‘Scottish FA’ and install their Grassroots app. Under ‘I’m a Coach’ you’ll find links to either SYFA (Boys) or SWF (Girls) rules.
ESSDA / SE Region Referee Requirements for 2024/25 Season:
All coaches must provide a signed print out of their Comet team sheet, and you must be able to identify each player from both sides before the match. If for any reason there is a sending off in the match, this must be reported to the ESSDA Disciplinary contact together with a report of the reasons why a sending off was made. All players should be identified by their strip number being on the list, if not it is the coach’s responsibility to identify the individual.
A new sanction which is in place this season involves the behaviour of the coaches and parents. It is the Head Coaches responsibility to ensure the parents behave in an appropriate manner towards the official, both sets of players, coaches and other parents. The focus should and always will be about the development and safety of the young athletes. Any issues that arise, the Head Coach of the team will be sanctioned for failing to control the parents.
Finally, there should be two coaches named and present on the team sheet in which one must be a recognised first aider. This will be part of your pre-match inspection.
You only need to submit the team lines if there are any red cards or misconduct from the coaches / parents.
For any other games, particularly non friendlies, referees should ensure they are suitably aware of applicable rules.
If you have cautions or sendings off in your matches, timescales for submission of match paperwork are crucial , so do not delay!
IMPORTANT – Should you have to call off from an appointment:
– For matches with your appointment confirmation email sent out by the SFA Hampden, follow the guidance in their email (and disregard the following).
– prior to 5pm Friday for weekend games, email EDRA Appointments.
– If after 5pm Friday for weekend games, for 11 aside or tournament games, do not email us, but call one of the Appointments Team (Robert Woodford or Martyn Johnstone – numbers on the SFA Extranet or COMET) and PLEASE leave a message if you get voicemail!
– But for 9 asides, if you are calling off at short notice, just inform the home team (by phone) and advise that we are unlikely to obtain a replacement. If there was no contact number within the appointment email, nor later provided, use email. Follow that up with an email (to them, if not already emailed), and EDRA Appointments, mentioning that you have contacted them (and how).
– For midweek games, if at least 24hours pre KO, email in, otherwise call one of the Appointments Team (unless 9 asides).
In all cases, it is courtesy to also advise your home team.
If you need to contact the Appointments team urgently, please CALL (not email or message) one of the Appointments Team (numbers on the Extranet or COMET) and PLEASE leave a message if you get voicemail!
PLEASE do not give teams cause to provide negative feedback by failing to prepare!
